Happy, happy, happy NEW YEAR!!! Seriously, where did 2024 go? It feels like just a few months ago I was writing about setting actionable goals for the year, and now here I am talking about a new year reset, sharing some life updates, reflecting a bit, and maybe setting some goals for 2025… if I even have any, to be honest!
This year’s theme is GREATER AND BETTER! If you’ve been around for a while, you know I usually go along with the theme my church sets for the year and add my own personal twist. But honestly, this year’s theme doesn’t need anything extra. Here’s to a greater and better New Year!
New Year Reflections and Goals
If you read my post around this time last year, you’ll remember I was focused on tackling smaller goals that would build up to bigger ones. Well… I made some progress in the first quarter of 2024, but then I totally chickened out on the rest. Life and circumstances completely threw me off track, and I let it happen. Looking back, I realize the real issue was a lack of discipline, and honestly, it’s been an eye-opener.
So this year, I don’t have any huge, big goals. My main focus is surrendering my plans to God—completely handing over anything I think of as a “plan.” I tend to be super rigid when it comes to planning, so if I had one goal, it would be to just relax and go with the flow. Not aimlessly, but with balance. I want to learn to just roll with changing plans and adapt along the way, and that starts with completing my YearCompass!
What is a YearCompass?
“YearCompass is a free booklet that helps you reflect on the year and plan the next one. With a set of carefully selected questions and exercises, YearCompass helps you uncover your own patterns and design the ideal year for yourself.”(Source: YearCompass).
In other words, it’s basically a big reflection booklet! It’s perfect for someone like me who sometimes feels like I didn’t accomplish much in a year, especially when what I did didn’t exactly line up with the goals I had. But every time I fill it out, I realize I actually did more than I planned! For example, in 2024, I traveled so much and even attended three weddings!
The booklet has two sections: one for reflecting on the past year and another for planning the future. And this year, we’re not settling for small or simple goals—nope, we’re (aka me) dreaming bigger than ever before!
Social Connections and Intentional Living
One thing I really want to do more of this year—though it’s not exactly a resolution—is to be more social. Since moving out and living on my own, I’ve noticed I’ve become a bit isolated, and I really want to get out there and do more social things.
One of my amazing neighbors runs a social club here in Seattle, and I’ve been to a few of their events. I’d love to attend more in the future! I’m not much of a party person, so I’m looking forward to joining community clubs and similar spaces where I can connect with people in a more chill way.
I also really want to get back into reading. I’ve been in a major rut and haven’t read much since last June! Hopefully, I can snap out of it soon and share some of the books I enjoy along the way.
Overall, I just want to be more intentional about how I’m living my life this year—whether it’s how I spend my time, connect with friends, or make decisions. I truly believe this is going to be a greater and better year, and I pray it’s the same for you. If last year wasn’t great for you, I hope this one is your best yet. And if it was a good one, here’s to an even better year ahead!
