Studying / Working from home tips

studying from home

This week last year was my last normal week before being furloughed and going into a lockdown. The first two weeks of being home was absolutely INSANE. My mental health took a nose dive with my emotions in tow. I did the bare minimum. I attended classes but showed zero interest and while reading a book typically brought me out of a funk, I found that I couldn’t even bring myself to open a book, which for an avid reader such as myself is/was a hard truth to face. Overall, I wish I had some studying/ working from home tips to rely on.

Despite all of this, I began to change my daily routine and documented it. Now, I have this amazing list of tips that helped me get out of my funk and be productive. Hopefully this helps you as well. As you read this, remember to always do what works best for you and your lifestyle.

As always, share this post, leave comments, and your feedback! Feel free to share any tips you may have as well

Cheers! ♥

STUDYING / WORKING FROM HOME TIPS DURING A PANDEMIC

  1. Make a list or schedule of some kind: I typically keep a master list of what needs to be done that specific week
  2. Create a to-do list of only the most important things that needed you attention
  3. Find a comfortable place to study/work: My room became my sanctuary.  I understand many people didn’t have the privilege of having a safe space and still don’t. However, finding a spot of my own really helped to keep my motivation levels up
  4. For students, treat school as a job:  In order for me to get anything done, I tackle my daily to-do list between the hours of 9am-5pm. I’ve come to find that by treating my education as a job, I’d felt less guilty when deciding to focus my attention on other stuff
  5. Eliminate distractions : Keeping distractions to a minimum is easier said than done. However, when you set a schedule for yourself be sure to include a slot for a break and allow yourself to indulge in a few distraction
  6. Find a study buddy: I find that the days my sister would study with me helped keep my motivation up
  7. Find someone you can speak/ rant to: A colleague of mine,  Andrea and I would meet on Sundays and just rant. And if the other needed someone to speak to during the week, we’d just hold a zoom call
  8. Try to do something new each month: I made a list of things I wanted to do for the first time for my 23rd birthday and slowly ticked off what I had completed. During the lockdown, I learned how to make fresh pasta, to sew, and paint.
  9. Rest: This is probably the most important tip. If something is bothering and you can’t figure it out immediately and have the time, take a nap. Every time I would feel frustrated or annoyed at something, I would just take a nap. I would then feel so much better after. They dont tell you this but most adults probably need naps more than kids do. I know I did and still do 😂
